This article talks about the on going problem with teen sexting and how this is a modern day problem, which has resulted from the technology driven society we now live in. Two disturbing statistics that were revealed in this article were that 1 in 4 teens are receiving sexually explicit texts and emails while 1 in 10 teens are forwarding sexts without consent. The first problem with sexting is the fact you are putting a naked/half-naked image of yourself out into the public for pretty much anyone to get their hands on. Once you send that message or picture to someone, it does not get deleted or disappear just because that person claims he or she “deleted it.” This article brings up a very great point to the fact that image of yourself can then be used as a way of blackmail or even cyberbullying. For example, a boy in high school who received a nude from a girl could then go spread her nude around to all of his friends. Next thing you know half of the school has now seen that girl’s nude. This can lead to damaging amounts of self esteem and psychological problems for that poor girl. This online article https://www.psycom.net/teen-sexting/ ties into our class discussions due to this new way of using technology and how easy it is to sext other individuals. Also, this article ties into the class by showing the consequences of how some forms of technology can be used to harm people while, in this case, would be psychologically.
