Cyberbullying

In an article written by Emily S. Rueb, it talks about a high school junior who decided to commit suicide from being bullied over social media. This student was bullied for being openly bisexual and all of the people he trusted with this personal information wound up being fake friends. This issue regards the ongoing societal issue that stems from cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is a means of bullying another individual by using electronic forms such as social media to cause emotional pain. This article relates to my parenting and technology class because of the tech paradox. The tech paradox are the pros and cons of technology and the example of cyberbullying would clearly fit into a con. The con is that children and even adults can manipulate the use of social media and use it as a way to attack someone’s self esteem while hiding behind a screen. While not all technology is bad, I personally hope technology can develop a way to counteract this cyberbullying issue. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/09/30/us/channing-smith-suicide-bisexual-tennessee.html
