Gaslighting

Gaslighting: It's Really A Thing | HuffPost

In this article, the author explains what gaslighting is and how it is found in relationships today. If you are not aware of the meaning, Gaslighting is when an abuser manipulates factual information so the victim doubts themselves. “Gaslighting happens in relationships where there is an unequal power dynamic and the target has given the gaslighter power and often their respect.” The author also states that gaslighting can happen in any type of relationship whether it be romantic or not. The person could be a friend, boss, or even a sibling and you do not want to upset this person because they mean so much to you and would hate to lose them. An example of gaslighting pertaining to a family relationship would be a mother explaining to her husband that he is avoiding his responsibilities of taking care of his son, which leads to the husband ignoring her claims and saying that her accusations are false. This article relates to my Parenting and Technology class because gaslighting affects modern day relationships, especially when it comes to families, which is shown through the example of gaslighting I gave. https://www.vox.com/first-person/2018/12/19/18140830/gaslighting-relationships-politics-explained
