Is Technology ruining Traditional Childhood Activities?

7 Childhood Activities that Can Make You Healthier and Happier ...

In this article, the author talks about how traditional childhoods are now being changed and altered due to the rise of technology and media. She claims that some researchers go as far as claiming society’s current technological trend as, “the death of childhood.” An interesting and alarming fact I found from this article is when the author states, “excessive television exposure can adversely impact their early language development.” The author also points out that parents have admitted that their children that are the ages from 2-10 spend nearly 19 hours a week on their devices. This article ties into my parenting and technology class because it talks about how technology is affecting children and how parents monitor their child’s use of it. For the most part, I believe most parents are not aware about how much screen time their children actual have each week. Most children nowadays play on their little devices instead of doings things like I did as a kid, which are playing outside on the swing set, riding my bicycle, playing with Legos, and even building forts with all of my blankets and couch cushions. These things I did as a child I believe helps develop a child’s creativity and allows them to think outside the box, which essentially allows them to focus on things in the environment around them. Also, the things I used to do allows children to get the exercise they need daily, which is not received by them being stuck behind a screen all day laying in bed. https://medium.com/@grace.elelu/screentime-over-playtime-is-technology-ruining-childhood-db29608f8982
